Julia Thorn-Seshold (Ahlfeld)
Julia is the biology subgroup leader.
She studied biology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn then at the LMU Munich. She took her PhD in 2014 at the LMU Institute of Neuropathology with Prof. Ulrich Schüller, researching developmental transcription factors that are important during adult neurogenesis as well as in oncogenesis. In 2015 she moved to the LMU Division of Clinical Pharmacology focusing on immunology and the inflammatory response of the innate immune system, and conducted a clinical vaccination study for yellow fever virus.
She joined the Thorn-Seshold Group in 2018 for translational in vivo biology in the NanoCapture project, and rose to lead it by 2021. She is researching novel methods to target diagnostic and therapeutic drugs to sites of inflammatory disease, for which she has been recognised with a Joachim Herz Translational Fellowship and CeNS Investment award. |
